Welcoming International Families

Fortitude Valley State Secondary College is a multi-cultural environment, comprised of students from all backgrounds and walks of life. We endeavour to warmly welcome new families to our college, and to promote inclusivity in our practice; working to develop a community of agile learners who are bold, resilient and kind.

Our community of students, parents/carers and staff have travelled from many countries, and speak a plethora of languages:

Enrolment Requirements

Please note that FVSSC does not take short term international enrolments. Rather, we welcome families who may have newly moved to Brisbane, Australia, and are seeking long-term education for their students.

Competency in the English language, spoken and written, is a requirement of enrolment. There are no formal tests for incoming students to undertake; however, we aim to identify that a certain comprehension level is present upon enrolment, to ensure that your student will not fall behind.

FVSSC has a good relationship with the intensive English language school, Milpera State High School. Should your student require additional language support, we may refer your family to Milpera SHS.

Support for Families

Visas and Fees

If you have just arrived to Australia and are looking to enrol in a Queensland high school, we encourage you to first speak with a representative at Education Queensland International (EQI). EQI will be able to assist you with identifying the fees associated with your Visa and study in a QLD high school.

If you have a current student at FVSSC and their Visa has been changed or extended, please provide a copy of this new Visa to administration via the info@fortitudevalleyssc.eq.edu.au email, so that we have the most accurate information on file. If you encounter any difficulties with the renewal of your Visa, please inform your child's Head of House, where necessary, so that we can ensure your family is supported appropriately during this time.

Translation of Digital Content

Once you have confirmed your eligibility to enrol with EQI, you next need to complete an enrolment application for FVSSC. While doing so, it may be helpful to translate our digital forms to your primary language. To do so, you simply need to select your language from the top right of the form. However, please remember to type your answers to our questions in English.

Interpreters for Parents/Carers

FVSSC encourages parents and carers to request an interpreter where necessary. Your honesty about your understanding of the English language can help us to plan ahead for meetings, and enlist the support of an interpreter (either face to face or over the phone). This then ensures that all parties are correctly understanding the matters discussed in our enrolment interviews and any future meetings with teaching staff.

If you have any further questions, please contact our Enrolment Officer at enrol@fortitudevalleyssc.eq.edu.au.
