At Fortitude Valley State Secondary College, we are committed to providing our senior students with opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. Our Mentoring Program is designed to connect every Year 11 and 12 student with an external mentor, creating valuable relationships that foster personal growth, career exploration, and real-world learning.
Why Mentoring?
Mentoring plays a crucial role in supporting students as they navigate their senior years and prepare for life beyond school. By partnering with industry professionals, business leaders, and community members, students gain insights into different career pathways, develop essential life skills, and build confidence in their future aspirations.
How It Works
Each Year 11 and 12 student is carefully matched with a mentor based on their interests, goals, and aspirations. Students review mentor profiles and select their top choices, ensuring a meaningful and personalised connection. The program is designed to be flexible, with students and mentors meeting regularly throughout the year to discuss career aspirations, goal setting, and personal development.
Benefits of Mentoring
Career Insights & Guidance – Students gain first-hand knowledge about different industries and career opportunities.
Personal Development – Mentoring fosters confidence, resilience, and goal-setting skills.
Networking Opportunities – Students build professional connections that can support their future pathways.
Mutual Learning – Both mentors and mentees benefit from shared experiences, new perspectives, and collaborative problem-solving.
Building a Supportive Community
Our mentoring program is part of our broader vision to create a community of agile learners who are bold, resilient, and kind. By fostering meaningful relationships between students and external mentors, we are equipping our young people with the skills, knowledge, and networks to thrive in an ever-changing world.
