Music Program

Music at FVSSC.pngAt Fortitude Valley State Secondary College, our instrumental music program offers students a vibrant and enriching opportunity to explore their musical talents through a variety of ensembles. Currently, we are proud to feature a concert band, symphonic band, strings ensemble and jazz band. Additionally, we welcome beginners who are eager to learn instruments that will balance and complement our growing ensembles.

Rehearsals for all ensembles take place for one hour each week before school, fostering discipline and teamwork among students. Throughout the year, these groups are showcased at a range of performance opportunities, including whole school Valley Rallys, the Teneriffe Festival, performances at Jazz Clubs, collaborative events with other local high schools, and our annual instrumental music celebration concert.

Students interested in further developing their musical skills can also opt to participate in private or small group lessons. However, these lessons are not required for students to join an ensemble.

If you're interested in becoming part of the instrumental music program at Fortitude Valley State Secondary College, we encourage you to submit an Expression of Interest External link. We look forward to seeing our musical community continue to thrive as we grow within the coming years.

Drama Production

Our Drama Production takes place every two years and gives students from Years 7–12 the opportunity to be part of a large-scale performance experience. Open to students across all year levels through an audition process, the production brings together performers, creativity, and teamwork to create something special for our school community.

Previous productions include Orbit (2023) and The Last Poet (2025).

Students should keep an eye on Compass in 2027 for information and audition details for our next production.

Dance Troupe

Our Dance Troupe was established in 2026 and provides students with the opportunity to develop their performance skills, build confidence, and work collaboratively as part of a team.

Open to students in Years 7–12, the Dance Troupe trains once per week before school and works towards performances and competitions throughout the year. Students have the chance to challenge themselves creatively while building teamwork, commitment, and school spirit along the way.

Students interested in joining should keep an eye on Compass for updates, auditions, and upcoming opportunities.
